Insane mother burns two kids to death
IN A bloodcurdling incident, a mother killed two of her four kids by setting them ablaze in Alambagh on Tuesday. She then hid the charred remains of her kids, 1-year old son Mukka, and 4-year old daughter Shaili, behind an almirah. The ?killer mother? was alone with her kids at the time of the incident.
Third kid saved as the forth one raises alarm
IN A bloodcurdling incident, a mother killed two of her four kids by setting them ablaze in Alambagh on Tuesday.
She then hid the charred remains of her kids, 1-year old son Mukka, and 4-year old daughter Shaili, behind an almirah. The ‘killer mother’ was alone with her kids at the time of the incident.
Eyewitnesses told HT Lucknow Live that the woman, identified as Nirmala, resident of I-12 N Barha, Railway Colony, Alambagh, also attempted to burn her third kid Shailu, 7 years. However, her fourth child Divya woke up in the nick of time and raised an alarm.
The neighbours, who had already smelled a rat as smell of burning flesh pervaded the atmosphere and smoke billowed out of Nirmala’s house, finally decided to force their entry inside the house by breaking through the main door when they heard Nirmala’s kids crying out for help.
Shailu who escaped with minor burn injuries has been admitted to Balrampur Hospital where she is reported to be in a state of shock.
Though it’s not yet clear why the woman committed such a barbaric act, police said that she was mentally unstable. Her husband, Mansharam, who runs a tea stall at Ashiyana, too corroborated the police version.
Nirmala who has been arrested was unable to state why she committed the dastardly act. When HT Lucknow Live spoke to her at the Mahila police thaana Nirmala blabbered, “My husband did not give us anything to eat. He used to harass us. So, I did this.” However, Superintendent of police (east) Ajay Shankar Rai said that the woman indeed was mentally deranged.
“We learnt that she had left her one month old baby and gone to her parent’s place once. The neighbours too said that she hardly used to take care of her kids. So, it appears that she indeed is mentally deranged,” added Rai.
Mansharam said that he left his house at around 3 am for his tea stall. “My four children were sleeping peacefully at that time. My wife, who is mentally deranged, was awake and was sitting near the children. I had no inkling what she had in mind. In the past, she had acted strangely on several occasions but I could never imagine that she would do this,” he said. Reports suggested that as soon as Mansharam left, Nirmala made a bonfire by sprinkling kerosene on wooden logs.
She then picked up Mukka and Shailu, one by one, and placed them over the logs. “Even as the kids struggled to breathe and cried out aloud, Nirmala remained unmoved. She probably ensured that they were unable to come out of the logs. After the kids were dead she removed their charred bodies from the logs, put a blanket on their bodies, and hid them behind an old almirah inside the house,” a neighbour who was among the first to get inside the house, said.
Nirmala then tried to burn her daughter Shailu. As soon as she tried to put her on the burning logs her cries woke up Nirmala’s daughter Divya. It was Divya who saved her little sister by raising an alarm after which the neighbours came to their rescue.
