Iraq's new full-term parliament was convened on Thursday in Baghdad three months after a landmark election, with 275 members preparing to be sworn in.

The assembly, elected on December 15, is the first full four-year term parliament, since the ouster of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

It was meeting behind blast walls and razor wire in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone with troops guarding the perimeter area.

The session began with recitations from the holy Koran.
