According to a senior professor, for preservation of various enzymes and proteins, they need zero degree to -5 degree centigrade temperature but in the absence of power, it is difficult for them to maintain required temperature in the labs. Besides, study on fungus has also been stopped as it needs stabilised temperature.

Practical courses in computer science had also been affected due to power crisis, he said.

He said due to improper power supply, the research scholars would not complete their projects in time.

Besides, water crisis created by power rostering also takes its toll on field experiments. Scholars do not get adequate water to irrigate the field.

Senior professors alleged that though the university charged a fixed amount for operating generators but on very few occasions one could see the generators were put into service. Most of the time generators remained idle causing water problems for hostel inmates. They face great difficulty in managing a bucketful of water for their daily use.

University employees said they paid Rs 80 to Rs 150 as per their service category yet they were denied 24-hour water supply.

However, according to university sources the money collected from the staff was inadequate to keep generators running.

Maintenance expense of generators was very high and it was not feasible to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply in the university, they added .
