In a meeting held on Friday night, the committee members decided to appoint Dr DC Rai of college's Ancient History Department as the new principal of ISDC. He is expected to officially hand over the charge by Monday.

It is to be recalled that a group of students had been agitating for the removal of Dr Anand Shankar Singh for the past around one month. The agitating students had been complaining Dr Singh's appointment to the top post despite, according to their claims, being at the 14th spot in the seniority list of teachers of the college.

The agitating students had also levelled various other charges against him and had held demonstration, forced closure of offices, launched a relay hunger strike followed by a fast-unto-death for his removal.

Dr Singh had managed to convince students sitting on the hunger strike to call off their agitation just a few days back.

However, on Friday night the members of ISDC managing committee held a meeting and decided to replace Dr Singh, who had been the principal of the college for the past around one year, and appoint the senior most teacher of the college Dr DC Rai in his place.

On being contacted, the ISDC Manager Dr JSL Srivastava confirmed the management committee's decision to replace Dr Singh with Dr Rai as the college principal.

"The decision has not been conveyed in writing to me yet but the change has been confirmed by the chairman of the managing committee. Dr Anand Shankar Singh had been appointed as the acting principal of the college and the appointment was for a period of 90 days. As that period was already over, the management committee decided to administer the change now," he said.

Meanwhile, on Saturday as the news of management committee's decision spread on the campus, a section of the students upset over the removal forced closure of the college.
