Advanced Mechanical and Optical Systems (AMOS), Belgium, will supply collimator to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for testing cameras flown in Indian remote sensing satellites.
A deal was signed in Bangalore on Wednesday by AMOS commercial manager Jean-Pierre Chisogne and ISRO deputy director Ram Rattan.
This is the third time the€8-million AMOS will be supplying the collimator to the space application centre of ISRO, Ahmedabad.
The first two contracts were executed in 2001 and 2005.
"The latest contract signifies the growing trade ties between India and Wallonia. India is very important for Wallonia to work with and do business," said Jean-Claude Marcourt, minister of economy and foreign trade of Wallonia region in Belgium.
As part of the contract, AMOS will design, manufacture, test and supply the collimator as specified by the Indian space agency.
"We are also engaged in the design, manufacturing and installation of a space simulator for ISRO in Bangalore," Chisogne said.
He further added, "The simulator consists of a vacuum chamber of 6.5 metres in diameter and 10-metre long and a thermal panel."
AMOS will also transfer the technology to ISRO for indigenising its production and customise its applications for future space programmes.
"The collimator tested cameras were deployed in Resourcesat and Oceansat for remote sensing applications," Rattan said.
AMOS has also offered to collaborate with India and Russia in installing a 3.8 metre ground telescope at Nainital in Uttaranchal.
The 23-year-old firm supplies opto-mechanical systems and devices to test satellites or payloads in flying conditions.
Its vacuum chambers create outer space environment and its thermal panels simulate flying temperatures or fake stars (collimators), which are identical to those observed after the launch.
