KEEPING IN view the projected development of the State capital in the next 20 years Bhopal Development Plan - 2005 would be redrafted. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Ahmedabad would assist in reframing of the plan.

A decision to this effect was recently taken at a high-level meeting of the Housing and Environment Department. With this objective, the Town and Country Planning Department, Bhopal has already entered into an agreement with ISRO, which would, by the end of this year, make available necessary maps and particulars of the new development plan.

The use of latest remote sensing technique would help in ensuring optimum and systematic use of the land in and around Bhopal city.

This technique would also be used for proper utilisation of available land. It would become easier to ensure environmental protection along with providing better basic amenities to the citizens.

It may be mentioned that the pace of urbanisation of Bhopal has been very fast in comparison to other cities after it became the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

During the last few years, Bhopal and its neighbouring areas developed rapidly. Thus, it was felt necessary to reassess the previous draft of the Bhopal development plan in the wake of new requirements.

In this connection, detailed information has been sought from various government offices regarding their requirement of land in accordance with future plans.

Since the proposals of development are chalked-out on the basis of the City’s geographical structure, information received from all offices would be analysed for its inclusion in the development plan. Later on, a new draft of the development plan would be prepared.

Under this plan, all necessary aspects would be included that would ensure continuation of the City’s overall and balanced development. This will provide the residents of Bhopal with a clean and healthy atmosphere and also improve their standard of living.
