ACCESSORY DESIGNER-DUO Nitin and Kanchan Gupta have come up with a new and contemporary concept of paper jewellery, which is trendy, durable and affordable. Interestingly, it is difficult to look at the ornaments as paper jewellery since, the items are embellished with stones, kundan, pearls and gems.

Nitin Gupta said, “In order to provide fine products, we are importing beads and stones from Japan, Korea, Australia and Taiwan. All the jewellery is water and sweat-proof. Colours used are also fast and do not fade away with the passage of time. Wiping it with water can also clean the jewellery. After treating the paper, we put a certain type of gel on it so that it becomes waterproof.”

Paper jewellery is available in matching colours and can be customised. Another highlight of the jewellery is that it non-allergic and people allergic to metals can easily wear it.

Kanchan, who basically does the designing, says the jewellery is quite durable and lightweight. “The range of starts from Rs 30 and can go up to Rs 7,000. We make bangles, bracelets, earrings and sets. We have been into this business for almost seven years now but till now we were exporting it to foreign countries and we have just launched it in India. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow on Friday, Nitin also said they have obtained a patent for the technology to make this jewellery for 20 years. The ‘Kanchan Paper Jewellery’ exhibition will be on at Royal Café, Shahnazaf Road, on Saturday and Sunday.
