Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday said Italy’s decision not to send back two marines, accused of killing two Indian fishermen, to face trial in India as most unfortunate.

"I am reaching Delhi Tuesday night and I will take this issue up with the external affairs ministry. We will also explore legal recourse," Chandy said deploring Italy’s decision.

“This is not acceptable to us. We earnestly pursued the case. Our stand remains the same that they should stand trial here according to the Indian law,” the CM made it clear.

Reacting to the latest development Dora Jelestine, the widow of one of the fishermen killed the firing, said it was part of a larger conspiracy.

“Many people, including some powerful in Delhi, colluded to ensure their safe passage. Italy has duped the highest court of the country,” Dora said.
