J&K cop booked for harassing wife

A Jammu and Kashmir police constable was booked for allegedly 'harassing' his newly-married wife and demanding dowry.

"A newly wedded woman on Thursday lodged a complaint in the Women Cell against her husband alleging harassment by him over of dowry," a police official said.

An official said the complainant alleged that her husband constable Gurmeet Singh, resident of Nanak Nagar, posted at Srinagar, beat her and demanded more dowry.

"The complainant also alleged that her husband had an illicit relation with another woman," police added and a case under FIR number 16 of 2013 had been registered and the constable was directed to appear at the Women Cell of the police station.
