J&K gets first drama-cum-repertory school

The school, set up in Srinagar, will reportedly follow the guiding principles of the National School of Drama (NSD).

In the first-ever such venture in Jammu and Kashmir, a drama-cum-repertory school has been set up in the city under the aegis of Ensemble of Kashmir Theatre Akademi (EKTA).

A spokesperson of the school, which would follow the guiding principles of the National School of Drama, New Delhi, today said applications from interested students, both male and female, have been invited for the six-month professional diploma certificate course in dramatic arts.

The first session would start from April 17 next, the spokesperson said, adding the students, after the completion of the six-month course, would have to work in the EKTA repertory for at least six months for practical experience.

The courses and subjects offered by the school include modern dramatic literature and creative script-writing. As far as acting is concerned, the students can get trained in voice and speech, yoga, mime and movement, methodology of acting and exercises, scene work and improvisations, the spokesperson said.

The students will also be imparted training in stage craft and designing which includes theatre architecture, scenic designing, costume designing, stage lighting and make-up.

In the film appreciation course, the subjects which will be offered are TV and flim art and acting, screenplay writing, videography and audiography, the spokesperson said.
