The Directorate, which is inquiring into the Indian connections in the scam brought out by the Volcker Committee report, had directed Jagat, Suman and three others to hand in their passports to the agency.

It had also issued notices to youth Congress leader Jameel Zaidi and one Asad Khan.

The agency had sent notices to all these on the basis of progress made so far in its probe into the dealings of Indians with the ousted Saddam Hussein regime of Iraq in the oil-for-food programme under UN aegis between 1996 and 2003.

The confiscation of passports was seen as a prelude to extensive questioning of Jagat and Suman, ED sources said.
