However, the cancellation directive came at the eleventh hour when hundreds of supporters of the four leaders had already assembled at the party office. The upbeat mood of the party workers along with the beating of the drums died down as the news trickled in. The cancellation led to outburst of the party workers against Jaiswal, albeit in a subdued manner.
Eight persons had been appointed as secretaries, four each from the Jaiswal and the Ajay Kapoor camps, in the recently announced PCC. The decision to appoint four members from both groups was a ploy to satisfy both factions.
While Iqbal Ahmed, Shailendra Dixit, Nizamuddin Khan and Pradeep Nigam from the Sriprakash faction and Ajay Kapoor loyalists, Alok Mishra, Dr Naresh Mishra, Ravindra Tripathi and Gopal Paswan, were appointed secretaries in the PCC.
On Sunday, the Jaiswal faction had organised a felicitation function to honour the newly appointed four secretaries of their camp in the Tilak Hall at the party office.
It was being perceived that after the function, fissures between the two factions would further widen. Sensing this, Jaiswal gave orders for cancellation of the function.
An organiser, Gulab Singh Kori informed that a new date for felicitating all the newly elected eight members of the PCC would be announced soon.
However, the cancellation caused widespread resentment among the party workers who had gathered at the party office. Former corporator Madan Lal Bhatia said that the occasion could have been utilised to convene a meeting to chalk out details for the proposed demonstration at the Kanpur Municipal Corporation.
