Jakhar dedicates two galleries at IGRMS

GOVERNOR DR Balram Jakhar today dedicated two new galleries in the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) to the public on the occasion of the first anniversary of the internal museum gallery. The galleries are christened as folk music and performing traditions and folk culture and cuisine-related traditions.

In his address, the Governor said it is imperative to know the past for progress. Our progress lies in knowing our traditions, he added.

Calling upon the youths to acquaint themselves with the culture and heritage of India through the museum, the Governor cautioned them against getting overwhelmed by the influence of western culture.

Museum Director Prof Kishor K Vasa said on the occasion that the two new galleries are not only aimed at conserving heritage but would also promote tourism.

Presiding over the function, former director of the museum Dr RS Negi recalled how the museum has undergone a vast change since he had come here as director in 1979.
