Amid intelligence warnings of terror attacks on Independence day, a high alert was sounded in Jammu on Thursday and security personnel have been deployed all over the city for round the clock vigil.
The alert was sounded in view of dozens of intercepts of conversations by militant groups and warnings by army's military intelligence wing regarding the possibility of militant attacks in Jammu on the eve of Independence day function.
"We have sounded a high alert in Jammu city in wake of apprehension of militant threats. We have received militant intercepts in this direction," Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, SDS Singh Jamwal told PTI.
Army, BSF, CRPF and state police personnel have been deployed in the city and adjoining areas.
"We warn of militant attacks in Jammu on or before I-day function as we have intercepted several militant messages and conversations in this direction," Defence Spokesman, Lt Col S D Goswami said.
The intercepts referred to Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blasts and grenade attacks, he said adding militants could exploit the situation out of Amarnath land row.
"We apprehend that militants can use uncertain situation developed in Jammu due to Amarnath row to their advantage and may throw grenades and cause blast in places of rallies or agitations," he said.
Security blanket has been thrown around railway station and the bus stand here, while patrolling along Pathankote-Jammu-Udhampur railway track has been intensified, police said.
