Janmashtami celebrated with gaiety

THE FESTIVAL of Shri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with traditional fervor and gaiety here in Varanasi on Wednesday. Lanes, by-lanes and localities of the temple town echoed with the traditional jingle of Lord Krishna, ?Nand Ko Annad Bhaiyo Jai Kaniya Lal Ki? when the clock struck 12 on Wednesday midnight.

Lanes, by-lanes and localities of the temple town echoed with the traditional jingle of Lord Krishna, ‘Nand Ko Annad Bhaiyo Jai Kaniya Lal Ki’ when the clock struck 12 on Wednesday midnight.

Several religious and cultural functions were organised at different mutts, temples, police line, police stations and social and academic institutions in Varanasi. Attractive tableaux depicting various aspects of Lord Krishna’s life were also displayed to mark the occasion.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) organised a series of religious and cultural events at its Hare Krishna temple in Durga Kund area from August 15 to 17 to celebrate the Krishna-Janmashtami festival.

A debate competition on ‘Spiritual and Materialistic life’ was held on the day of Janmotsav on Wednesday, followed by attractive fancy dress competition of school kids. A dance competition for school kids was also held which was followed by Bhajan recital and a programme of dance drama.

The Abhishekh of Lord Krishna was performed by devotees with 108 kalash. The ‘Maha aarti’ of Lord Krishna was also performed at 12 midnight on Wednesday.

Attractive tableaux were displayed at Bhullanpur premises of 34th Battalion of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and at 36th Battalion of PAC at Ramnagar.

Religious and cultural functions were also organised at Police lines, district and central jails.The devotees celebrated Shri Krishna Janmashtami festival at different places including Tekra mutt, DLW, Radha Krishna temple, Kashi Vishwanath temple, Annapurna temple, Satya Narayan temple etc.

Different aspects of the life of Lord Krisha were depicted in well decorated tableaux displayed at different hostels and Mahila Mahavidyalya in BHU on Wednesday night.
