“I shall forward a proposal to fund such golf resorts to the Japanese Government provided these resorts come up specifically in the Sarnath Buddhist circuit”, he told HT Live on his visit to the Lucknow Golf Club.
He said the golf resorts need to be designed to suit the likes of visiting Japanese tourists with a swimming pool and other necessary state-of-art tourist facilities.
Currently, Japanase funding is not possible just for a single golf course in the city. You need to develop a series of them to make golf courses “hot candidates” for their further development with Japanese funding, Takemoto said.
On being asked about the prospects of Japanese companies investing in Uttar Pradesh, he commented: “This is my first visit to the state. After travelling in Uttar Pradesh, it would be possible to comment on investment prospects”.
Earlier, while addressing participants of a programme at the Lucknow Golf Course before planting a sapling on the greens, Takemoto said Japanese were very fond of playing golf. “I myself play golf once every week. The Lucknow Golf Club is an ideal place for Japanese tourists to play golf or go for swimming when they are in the city, he added.
He said the Japanese Government can help India with construction of highways, power stations and overbridges. During a crisis in Japan when the country was defeated by the United States during the second world war, India helped Japan with export of iron ore and coal in its reconstruction. “In the current economic scenario, we see tremendous scope for Japanese investments in India,” he said.
