Nicknamed 'Dizzy', Jason Gillespie was selected at the age of 21 for Australia's 1996 World Cup campaign, and although he failed to play a match, team management noticed on a first-hand basis his freakish talents with ball in hand, and it was not long till he was called up for his Test debut against the West Indians, taking finishing the match with a total of 2/89.
During the 1997 Ashes Series, Gillespie began to show his true potential as a Test match bowler, snaring 7/37 in a fearsome spell of pace bowling. His seven scalps were felt world wide, and Australia's newest fast bowling sensation was complete.
He is renowned as one of the best bowlers on the international circuit.
He operates from a shorter run-up these days and is not so consistently quick but is accurate and has first-class control on the ball.
He can effectively wield the bat in the lower order.
