Faced with rebellions, Janta Dal(United) on Thursday expelled Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader Shivanand Tiwari and four Lok Sabha MPs on the charges of indulging in anti-party activities.
The expelled Lok Sabha members are Captain Jainarain Nishad (from Muzaffarpur), Purnmasi Ram (Gopalganj), Sushil Kumar Singh (Aurangabad) and Mangani Lal Mandal (Jhanjharpur). Three of them -- Nishad, Ram and Mandal -- were suspended earlier.
While chief minister Nitish Kumar announced the expulsion of Aurangabad MP Sushil Kumar Singh, the dismissal of four others was announced by national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP KC Tyagi in New Delhi.
“Sushil Kumar Singh is reportedly hobnobbing with the LJP to get a Lok Sabha ticket. He was suspended from the party but I had brought him back to the party fold. But, now he is trying to get a LJP ticket from Auranagabad,” Kumar said.
The three other Lok Sabha MPs- Mangani Lal Mandal, Purnamasi Ram and Jay Narayan Nishad- were under suspension. While Nishad was likely to join the BJP, Ram and Mandal are likely to contest the Lok Sabha polls as RJD nominees. “Both Nishad and Ram were for six years since they were hobnobbing with ‘communal and corrupt forces,” he said.
Tyagi said that the former party spokesman Shivanand Tiwary of late was critical of style of functioning of chief minister Nitish Kumar after denial of re-nomination in the Rajya Sabha. Tiwary had recently written several letters to the state party president using ‘derogatory’ words in criticizing the chief minister.
Nishad had openly defied the party leadership by organizing a ‘yagna’ for the fulfillment of ambitions of BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. While Nishad hails from the extremely backward caste (EBC) of fishermen, Ram is a Dalit leader.
Nishad was in RJD and BJP earlier before joining JD(U) while Ram was once a minister in Lalu Prasad’s government cabinet in Bihar. Mandal had also been in RJD in past before joining the JD (U). Singh is a Rajput leader from Aurangbad and had been MP twice.
Mandal and Singh had also faced proceedings under anti-defection law along with then rebel MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan. The party had withdrawn the proceedings in July last year. Lalan later mended relations with the Bihar chief minister.
Earlier, Lalan, Sushil Singh and Mangni Lal Mandal were suspended in 2012 for anti-party activities.
