Police said the encounter began at 2pm following a tip-off about the presence of militants in a residential building in the Dangerpora area.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that three to four category-A militants could be trapped in the house.
Inspector general of police AG Mir said the slain militants included Pakistani militant Hassan, who has been in the divisional commander of Jaish-e-Mohammed. "Hassan was active in the area since 2007."

Calling the operation a "major success", Mir said it was part of an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the area. He, however, denied the reports that the group was involved in the killing of assistant sub-inspector Kafeel Ahmad in the area last week.

The operation, jointly conducted by the state police and the Army was going on at the time of filing of this report. However, a police spokesperson said the encounter was over and a combing operation was underway.
In a similar encounter last week, top Lashkar commander Muzamil alias Muza Moulvi, had managed to escape from police cordon. An ASI was killed and three soldiers were injured in the encounter.

The Indian troops on Monday foiled an infiltration bid in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch at around 6am. The forces swung into action after detecting suspicious movement across the border.
