Jeweller arrested with burglar
THE TALAIYA police have arrested the kingpin of a gang of burglars that had allegedly committed a dozen burglaries in the State capital in the last few months. A jeweller of Bairagarh has also been arrested for buying stolen jewellery from the gang.
THE TALAIYA police have arrested the kingpin of a gang of burglars that had allegedly committed a dozen burglaries in the State capital in the last few months. A jeweller of Bairagarh has also been arrested for buying stolen jewellery from the gang.
Police said the main accused, Majeed, 45, a resident of Nishatpura, committed the burglaries along with Disco, and Sharif, an auto-rickshaw driver. Disco and Sharif were arrested earlier this year when the police had recovered jewellery and cash worth Rs 3 lakh.
The main accused Majeed was absconding and had gone to jail to meet Disco when the police got air of the matter. He was subsequently arrested and he spilled the beans during interrogation.
Majeed would break into the houses and with the help of the woman gang member, transported the jewellery in Sharif’s auto to his house. It was later sold to jeweller Harish alias Gul Dadlani. The latter has confessed buying the jewellery, police said. The stolen ornaments were recovered from the jeweller’s house in Bairagarh.
A team led by Sub-Inspector KP Chanderia nabbed the gang. The gang has confessed twelve burglaries in Kotwali, Talaiya and Mangalwara areas of the City.
Besides, the gang allegedly committed burglaries in Jalgaon, Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities and more confessions are expected during interrogation. The police have recovered 150 gram gold, 250 gram silver, some cash and other valuables worth Rs 1.5 lakh.
