Actor and producer Jimmy Shergill is teaming up with the critically acclaimed film maker Tigmanshu Dhulia to make a film on the legendary Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
In Karnal on Sunday to promote his forthcoming Punjabi film Rangiley, which will be released on May 17, Shergill said that he had a story in hand on his real life ideal Bhagat Singh.
“Though several films have been made in Hindi and Punjabi on Bhagat Singh but our venture would be class apart. I have spoken to Dhulia, with whom I had worked in few films, to direct the film and hopefully the project will be rolled out soon,” he said.
Known for his roles in Hindi films including Machis, Tanu weds Manu, Sahib Biwi aur Gangester, Shergill had tasted success in Punjabi film industry also as a producer and actor.
“Now the Punjabi films are being accepted as entertaining stories backed by professional technical support are being made. But the credit to infuse life in the almost dead industry goes to the teams of Harbhajan Mann-Manmohan Singh and Gurdass Mann-late Manoj Punj,” he said.
On his “Rangiley”, he said that the film was a wholesome entertainer for the family and dialogues by the comedian Rana Ranbir were the USP of the project.
He said that it was Neha Dhupia's first Punjabi film.
The promising actor said that even as he was earning handsomely from Hindi films, had had vowed to do his bit to revive films in his mother tongue Punjabi as it was his passion.
“I have a desire to make period films in Punjabi and have stories ready for it. As it is an expensive to venture into period film, I am looking for a producer to invest for such projects,” he said.
On being asked to promote in Haryana, Shergill said that it was heartening to know the market details that Punjabi films had a vast audience in Haryana, NCR and even Bengluru and Indore, where a number of Punjabis were studying or working.
He is looking for his next Hindi film “Bullet Raja” directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and co-starred by Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha is slated to be released on September 6.
