The JKLF activists' march was led from the party's headquarters in uptown Maisuma locality of the city by Malik.

The marchers shouting pro-independence slogans and against the Indian security forces for alleged violations of human rights in Kashmir reached the nearby city centre - Lal Chowk.

Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in strength in the area.
