J P YADAV once again came up trumps and guided Arera Academy to a five-wicket victory on Thursday over Collage Group Delhi in the semifinal of the sixth Manish Agnihotri Memorial All India Cricket Tournament played at Old Campion Grounds.
After an impressive show on Wednesday, the City favourite cricketer J P Yadav proved his mettle against the strong Delhi team. However, once again, he lost the toss.
Batting first, the Delhi outfit lost the top quickly. Mobin Ahmed, hero of the last match, returned to the pavilion on the first ball of the match. Abdul Aqueel caught him in the gully off a delivery of Nishant Singh.
Delhi lost the second wicket in the form of Farman Ahmed at the score of seven runs. Yadav scalped his wicket. Yadav also scalped the wickets of John Anthony and Ashish Sharma. The team reeled as 24 for four.
However, Saurabh Saxena through his responsible innings enabled Delhi to set a decent score. Stitching an important 139-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Sachin Chaudhary, he managed to take the score to 208.
However, Saurabh missed his century by just ten runs while hitting a delivery of Nishant Singh. Brijesh Tomar ‘Omi’ caught him. This was the second catch of Tomar. Ahmed was his first victim. The luck went against the highest scorer of the Delhi innings Sachin Chaudhary. He missed his century by just six runs. With the help of the partnership, Delhi set a 231-run target for the home team in 40 overs.
Yadav claimed three wickets while Nishant scalped two. KD took one wicket. Chasing the target, Arera suffered early setbacks when the opener Abdul Aqueel and Varun Sharma lost their wickets without any significant contribution. Yadav and Pradeep Yagnik played responsibly and bailed the team out of trouble.
Producing a 146-run partnership the two batsmen brought the team into the match. In his 69 runs innings, Yadav scored two sky-high sixes. Pradeep scored 71 runs. Arera won the match by five wickets.
