THE PROPOSED flyover at Juni Indore moved a step closer to fruition with pre-qualification bids for the Rs 16-crore project being opened on Wednesday. Three national firms have bid for the flyover, the rate bids for which will be unveiled tomorrow.

The project is to be completed within 15 months from the day construction begins, which will start as soon as the Manikbag overbridge is opened.

As per the proposal, 75 per cent of the project costs would be borne by the IDA with the remaining being contributed by IMC. Keeping in mind delays in completion of the Manikbag overbridge, a carrot-and-stick clause has been inserted in the agreement.

As per this the contractor would have to shell out a penalty amount of Rs 20,000 for every day after the deadline has expired while each day he completes the project in advance would earn him Rs 10,000.

In a further bid to reduce lag the IDA has decided to construct on the portion of land owned by the Railways although the work would be carried out under the supervision of Railways.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between Indore Development Authority, Indore Municipal Corporation as well as MPSEB and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) officials to pave the way for the overbridge construction by eradicating potential glitches.

Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma, IDA Chairman Madhu Verma, CEO C B N Singh as well as IMC Speaker Shankar Lalwani and Mayor-in-Council members were present on the occasion.

During the meeting it was decided that the task of shifting the Narmada pipelines as well as telephone and electricity cables should be completed before construction work starts.

The officials also decided that encroachments on both sides of the proposed overbridge be removed before construction commences.

Addressing the meeting, IDA Chairman Madhu Verma revealed that the Sukhlia overbridge and MR-10 would be completed by June.
