"After Kalyan Singh gave a go ahead, Rajbir is joining the SP as a national general secretary," party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav announced in Lucknow.

Kalyan Singh said earlier in the day that he would campaign for the SP in the coming Lok Sabha polls.

SP General Secretary Amar Singh said that if Kalyan decides to contest as an Independent from Etah, the SP would support him.

Showering praise on Kalyan Singh, Amar Singh said that the former BJP leader and Mulayam Singh Yadav were the "real leaders of the people" who have a "good working relationship."

He said while the SP has a deal with Congress, between Kalyan Singh and Mulayam Singh it was "friendship and togetherness."

To a question on the possibilities of Rajbir contesting the Lok Sabha elections, Yadav said "this was the time to carry out agitation, he will help SP in elections".
