THE TEAMS from Kannur, Mysore, MG Kottayam and Amritsar today entered the next round of the All-India Basketball Championship that began today at Major Dhyanchand Grounds. The closing ceremony of the South West Zone Inter-University Basketball Championship was organised at the same venue.

Barkatullah University’s (BU) dismal performance continued today as well. This was the host’s fourth consecutive defeat. It lost to Amritsar by a margin of 18-48. Despite its best efforts, lack of coordination between the players led to Bhopal University’s debacle.

BU’s struggle could be gauged from the fact that the team failed to open its account in the first quarter while Amritsar had scored 19 points by then. Like in the previous matches, N Prasanna led the fight from the start. She scored 10 points in the match.

Fabulous passes and superb coordination by the players of Amritsar saw them winning this fixture. Saloni and Sukhwant Kaur scored 19 and 17 points respectively.

BU coach Upendra Singh Tomar is confident that the team will come back in the tournament by winning the remaining matches.
“The girls have improved their game. I am expecting wins from them in the remaining matches,” he said.

On the other hand, Amritsar coach P S Nijjar said the team would play with the same strategy in the following ties.
