Kanwarias add to festive fervour
THE CITY is in a festive mood, as devotees, including kanwarias, have been coming here from different parts of the state since the beginning of the month of Sawan on July 12. Two big fairs are also being held o celebrate the occasion.

The devotees pay obeisance to Lord Vishwanath at different temples in Varanasi. Saffron-clad Kanwarias can be seen in diferent parts of the city.
The areas adjoining the Kashi Vishawanth Temple, like Dashashwemedh, Gaudaulia, Chauk and Maidagin, are flooded with Kanwarias. Religious slogans like ‘Har Har Mahadeo’, ‘Bol Bum’ echo in these areas since the beginning of Sawan.
The city is also facing traffic snarls, specially on Mondays, due to a massive influx of devotees from distant places.
Two big fairs—one at Durgakund and another at Sarangnath Temple near Sarnath—are drawing the rural folk and local residents.
Though the area of the fair has been reduced at Durgakund in comparison to last year, but enthusiasm and zest are still evident here among the fair-goers.
Big swings have been installed to entertain the fair-goers. Makeshift shops of traditional sweets like ‘nan-khatai’ are adding flavour to the event.
The exhibition of the Tulsi Manas Mandir is a centre of attraction for fair-goers.
Attractive electricity-run tableaux, based on Gods and Goddesses, are being displayed here.
Similarly, one can witness a large number of people, including the rural folk, enjoying the fair at Sarangnath Temple near Sarnath.
