Eleven persons, including nine women, were killed and five others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a lorry near Koppal in Karnataka, police said on Tuesday.

All the 11, occupants of the ‘tum tum’ (a large autorickshaw), died on the spot in the collision, Koppal Superintendent of Police Thyagrajan said.
Five injured persons, including the cleaner of the lorry, have been admitted to a government hospital and the condition of a 35-year old woman was stated to be serious, he said.
The victims were travelling in the tum tum, plying from Koppal to Kuknoor, and the lorry was heading here from Hubballi when the mishap occurred around 6.45pm. The lorry driver is absconding, the SP said.
