The breakaway group destroyed three camps of the mainstream LTTE, reports PK Balachandran.

The breakaway LTTE group led by Karuna on Sunday destroyed three small camps of the mainstream LTTE in Trincomalee district and killed 12 persons, the group's spokesman, Thuyavan, said.

The camps attacked were in Kattaparichchan, Raalkuli and Sampoor, in an LTTE-controlled area in Eastern Sri Lanka.

The attackers, led by Margan, set out from Katankadu, and after reaching Muthur, broke up into three groups, and attacked the three mini camps.

"By our count, ten Wanni Tigers were killed. But local people said that 12 bodies had been carried away by the defenders," Thuyavan said.

The East-based Karuna group calls the mainstream LTTE group led by Velupillai Prabhakaran as the "Wanni Tigers" because it is based in the northern region of Wanni.

"We are warning the Wanni Tigers that we will search and destroy them where ever they may be," Thuyavan said.
