Those who resigned included Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district unit president Pramesh Rai Tripathi, vice-president Abhishek Srivastav, district secretary Manoj Shukla and Dhananjay Singh.
In a letter to the State Bharatiya Janata Party president, they said it was wrong to goad Upendra Dutt Shukla to file his papers and then put pressure on him to withdraw in favour of Yogi Adityanath’s candidate Shital Pandey.
They said they were deeply hurt by the decision of the party. Meanwhile, the Congress constituted an 11-member committee to monitor the election campaign of party candidate Shivshambhu Nishad.
District president TP Shahi said Brij Mohan Sonker, Laxmi Nishad, Rita Mishra and Arvind Vishwakarma were included in the committee. He called upon party workers to ensure the victory of Nishad.
Talking to mediapersons, Purvanchal Kranti Parishad candidate Dr Sanjayan Tripathi said the Kauriram by- election would be a referendum on the State Government’s performance. He alleged the elected candidate of the region had cheated the people.
The Samajwadi Party also intensified its campaign in support of party candidate Rambhual Nishad. Party leaders organised meetings at Kauriram, Khajanai, Gola and other areas and appealed to people to sideline communal and destructive forces.
