THE KANPUR Development Authority (KDA) employees’ demand for restarting the pension scheme may soon see the light of the day.

There is a plan to put the proposal on the agenda of the KDA board meeting to be held on March 23. The meeting has been called to table the Budget proposals for 2006-07. According to some KDA officials, if the employees demands pending for long were conceded by acting vice-chairman and district magistrate Deepak Kumar, the proposal to restart the pension scheme would be put on the agenda.

The KDA retired employees were not getting pension since 1999, mainly due to shortage of funds. Now, with the situation having improved, the employees put forth the demand for restarting the pension scheme.

A team of employees met KDA secretary Bhupendra Singh and apprised him of their demands. The secretary, they said, assured them of putting up their demands before the vice-chairman.

If the pension proposal was passed at the board meeting, the KDA would require an additional amount of Rs 30 crore for the pension scheme. They said since the retired employees were not getting pension since 1999, the KDA would be required to pay the arrear.

A proposal to raise the medical allowance of the employees, from Rs 20 to Rs 150, would also be on the agenda, they said. Several development authorities had already increased the medical allowance, they added.
