Keffiyeh: The ‘it’ accessory

Shah Rukh Khan started the trend and it seems to have caught everyone’s fancy.

The keffiyeh look has many takers, but the blog world seems to think otherwise. Bloo, a blogger, writes, “Nobody wears the keffiyeh anymore… come on Shah Rukh…you’re better off than following dated trends.” Another writes, “… He is committing the ‘too much’ fashion crime.”

Taking a cue from SRK, actor Shekhar Suman, his son Adhyayan and many other actors have been spotted wearing the scarf. Fashion designers agree that the actors have popularised the trend. “It seems to have made a comeback in a big, raw and funky way,” says designer Anand Kabra.

Keffiyeh, being a religious scarf, has generated controversies too. In Lebanon, Facebook groups like ‘Palestinian scarf: Understand it or don’t bother wearing it!’ and ‘I refuse to let the keffiyeh become a high fashion statement’ have sprung up.
