Days after Kejriwal won the Assembly elections from the New Delhi constituency, the police offered him X-category security, which has a PSO trailing the person concerned.

“You are offering me a PSO but I don’t need any PSO. God is my biggest PSO. Kindly use the services of the PSO that you are offering me to provide security to the aam aadmi of Delhi,” Kejriwal wrote by hand on the back of the letter sent by Delhi Police.

“I had not heard of anybody declining security yet in my service time,” SN Mosobi, deputy commissioner of police (security guards), who went with the letter to meet Kejriwal, told HT.

The police offer security to persons based on threat perceptions as per their own assessment or requests by individuals who have received threats.

Earlier in October, Kejriwal had refused security cover offered by Uttar Pradesh police. He had refused saying he cannot accept personal security when the safety of crores of citizens was at stake.

The one-year-old party has already declared that none of its elected candidates, even the chief ministerial candidate, will be accepting security cover and red-beacon cars.
