Kerala retains overall title for a record 12th time

Asserting their supremacy in the track and field, defending champion Kerala, retained the overall team championship title for the 12th time in a row in the 54th National School Athletic Championship in kochi.

Asserting their supremacy in the track and field, defending champion Kerala, retained the overall team championship title for the 12th time in a row in the 54th National School Athletic Championship in kochi on Sunday.

The hsts garnered a total of 91 medals -- 47 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze -- to accumulate 354.66 points, while the second finished Uttar Pradesh could collect a total of 28 medals with 10 gold, 11 silver and seven bronze medal. Punjab finished with 55 points (five gold, six silver and 11 bronze) to take the third slot.

The domination of Kerala athletes were so complete that they made a clean sweep by clinching the overall title in the boys section (147 points); Girls Section (209 points); Sub-Junior Boys (37 pts); sub-junior girls (46 pts); Junior Boys (45 pts), Junior girls (60 pts), Senior Boys (65 pts) and Senior girls (103 points)

Kerala, on the way to the title, also bagged record number of gold medals in the games bettering their 42 gold medals in the schools athletics nationals held at Mumbai. On the concluding day today eight meet records were created in the 400 m hurdles (u-19 boys) Vikash Chandran (Ker), Triple Jump (u-19 boys) Dharaj Kamalasankar (Mah), 200 M (U-17, Boys) Binish K Shaji (Ker); 200 M (U-19, girls) Indulekha (Ker); 800 m (U-19, Girls) Chinchu Jose (Ker); Triple Jump (U-19, girls) Amitha Baby (Ker); 800 m (U-17, Girls) Sinsha K (Ker); 200 M (U-14, Girls) Dutee Chand (Orissa).
