Imagine the height of police apathy. The most sensational kidnapping of the year took place on May 4 near the CMO's office on Stanley Road.

The victim, Udai Narain Tripathi, principal of RP Rastogi Inter college, Soraon, had come to the house of an acquaintance. It was around 8 pm when he left the house but instead of reaching home he vanished. His son Sandeep Tripathi went to several police stations including Civil Lines and briefed the cops how his father looked like and the scooter he was riding. On their part cops failed to find either the victim or his scooter till date. But the victim's scooter was found out by his son Sandeep on Wednesday from the Civil Lines police station premises itself.
It happened when the principal's son Sandeep had gone to the Civil Lines police station in connection with the licence of a revolver which his brother-in- law BK Rai is seeking to have. For a moment after spotting his father's scooter Sandeep was shocked. Soon he rushed to CO Rajeshwar Singh and told him about the scooter of his missing father who is feared to have been kidnapped by some persons. On his part the CO hurriedly found out when and how the scooter reached the police station. To his shock and dismay the scooter had been brought by the Civil Lines police on May 6, two days after the kidnapping and parked in the police station premises.
The guard of a lawyer living on SP Marg had brought to the notice of the cops of this police station that a scooter had been lying abandoned in the premises.
This happened on May 5. Cops, however, took 24 hours to reach the place and take the two-wheeler in their possession. Till that time they appeared to have either forgotten about the scooter of the principal or they were just not bothered.
