Highly-placed sources in the Mumbai police said the kidnappers had planned to either throw the child into a river and remove all trace of him as they knew the police were on their trail. Sources said Sujit Bhind had suspected something had gone wrong when he did not receive any call from his contacts in Mumbai all of Tuesday.

The officer said Mumbai police team and STF commandos from UP scanned five villages before zeroing in on Sujit’s hideout in the wee hours of Wednesday. “We pounced on the men and arrested them,” the officer said. Sujit told the police that he had planned to do kill the child in the morning, whether the ransom was paid or not.
