Palanivel, one of the brothers of Loganathan, who was on his way to Chennai by car along with four others, said that the family had already spoken and requested the US consulate to provide necessary VISAs.

We expect the formalities to be completed by Wednesday and fly to Chicago or Washington by earliest available flight. We are expecting to go at least by Thursday morning, he said.

On passports for the parents and two others, he said they would appear before the Passport office in Chennai on Wednesday to complete the formalities.

Loganathan, a native of Karattadipalayam in nearby Erode district, had expressed his wish to his wife that his body should be buried in the university campus, if anything untoward happened to him in Virginia.

The family members have decided to go there to fulfill his wish.
