The KMC invited tenders several months after the completion of the construction of a replica of the Ashoka Pillar outside the Lajpat Bhawan, Motijheel. Besides, it worked on interlocking of the road outside the house of former mayor Anil Kumar Sharma without floating any tender. A formal complaint was lodged by the KMC contractors with the district magistrate office. They apprised him of the gross irregularities worth crores of rupees in the construction work. The work was done without any tenders.
They also complained that the tenders were floated to favour a few contractors close to some senior KMC officials.
The district magistrate was also apprised of the fact that only eight hours were allotted to sell tender forms. But as per the KMC rules, seven days’ time is allotted from publication of the notice in a newspaper.
However, when the contractors contacted the employee concerned to purchase tender forms, the employee pleaded his ignorance saying that he was not aware of it. On further inquiry, they found out that tenders had already been floated and work undertaken.
Contractors also informed the district magistrate that one of the works, for which tender had been floated, had already been inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal on November 26.
A memorandum was also handed over to the district magistrate by the delegation, requesting him to take action against those responsible for it.
On receiving the report, the district magistrate asked the chief engineer Lalta Prasad to investigate the matter and submit a report within seven days.
