Shahnawaz Ali was found slumped on the ground in pool of blood outside his parent's house. His father cradled him after rushing outside on hearing commotion in front of his house.
Shahnawaz was due to have an arranged marriage. A neighbour said the 23-year-old had special needs and was in wheelchair as a child. His family spent a lot of money for his private treatment. He could not defend himself.
The motive for the brutal attack is still not clear. There was no attempt to rob him, according to earlier reports. But his brother had heard him scream and looked out of the window and saw two or three men attacking Shahanawaz.
The tragic incident once again highlighted the rampant and unrestrained knife culture. According to Home Office figures 272 people were killed in knife attacks in 2003-2004.
