Lakshadweep islands, the constituency represented by Power Minister PM Sayeed for three decades, on Sunday night plunged into shock and grief as the news of his untimely demise poured in.

Grief-stricken people came out of their homes here and in other islands and gathered at the Congress offices as the news spread.

In Sayeed's home island of Androth, a large number of people gathered at his ancestral home to console his relatives who are in a state of shock.

"Though we knew that Syeed was undergoing treatment abroad, we all expected that he would return hale and hearty," a Congress worker said.

"Sayeed saheb devoted his whole life addressing the problems of the Lakshadweep," he said.

Lakshadweep Territorial Congress Committee president Kallikkagothi Moosa Manikfan and other office bearers expressed profound grief at Sayeed's death.
