Lalit Mansingh: The diplomat

Mansingh has had a distinguished career in the Indian Foreign Service since June, 1963. He has been High Commissioner to Nigeria (1993-95) and Ambassador to the UAE (1980-83).

Mansingh was India’s Former Foreign Secretary and former Indian ambassador to United States. Prior to his appointment as the Ambassador of India to the United States, Mansingh served as High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

He was earlier in Washington, DC as Deputy Chief of Mission during 1989-92.

He has also served in various diplomatic capacities in Geneva, Afghanistan and Belgium.

Born on April 29, 1941, Mansingh graduated with honours in History and obtained his Master Degree in Political Science.
