Land dispute leads to road blockade

RESIDENTS OF Lahartara area staged a demonstration and blocked the traffic at GT road on Saturday in support of their demands. The locals had kept an idol of Lord Hanuman in the locality few days back. They claimed that the land was public property which belonged to the Gram Sabha but some people claimed that the land belonged to them. Following the dispute over land, the police came and brought the idol to the police station and kept it at a temple situated near the police station.

The locals had kept an idol of Lord Hanuman in the locality few days back. They claimed that the land was public property which belonged to the Gram Sabha but some people claimed that the land belonged to them. Following the dispute over land, the police came and brought the idol to the police station and kept it at a temple situated near the police station.

Angry with the attitude of police, the locals staged demonstration and blocked the traffic. The agitators were demanding re-establishment of the idol and seeking permission for worship.

Locals, including Anil Singh, Pankaj Singh and others, claimed that it was public property and some people were unnecessary creating dispute over public property. Later, police rushed to the spot and assured the locals to build a temple at a nearby place within one week. After getting assurance the locals lifted the chakka-jam.
