Former Home Minister RG Lyngdoh, dropped in the downsizing exercise earlier this year, will be the co-chairman of MEDC, which would have representatives of all political parties besides prominent personalities, official sources said on Monday.
Representatives from the state planning board, Industrial Development Corporation, Resource and Employment General Council will also be in the reconstituted body. Planning development commissioner and secretary was made the member secretary.
The council will advise the state government on issues relating to industrial and economic policies.
It will also deliberate and examine the constraints inhibiting the flow of investments into the state and possible steps for their removal, identify sectors where overall economic and industrial growth can be generated and accelerated and suggest ways for attracting local and foreign investments in the state.
