Launch nationwide JE drive

GIRLS AND boys holding placards and shouting slogans to introduce the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) eradication programme at the national level took out a rally from Indira Gandhi crossing, here on Monday. The rally passed through Townhall, Golghar and culminated at the court crossing. Women and children from various parts of Gorakhpur district and Basti division actively participated.

They were trying to put pressure on the Union Government to accept their demands.

Chief guest Dr YD Singh said he would raise this issue in the Assembly and condemned the apathetic attitude of respective governments in failing to take care of those who had become victim to JE epidemic.

Chairman of the Breast Feeding Promotion Committee Dr RN Singh stressed the need that just as the drive against polio was so effectively carried out, the JE eradication programme should be introduced with the same spirit.

Singh pledged to eradicate the killer disease from eastern UP and said he would continue his struggle till his last breath.

Social worker Deepak Agrawal said parents of around 15,000 children had written a letter to the Union Government from Pipraich assembly segment to implement the JE eradication programme at the national level.

The participants signed on a duly printed appeal and posted it to the Prime Minister appealing that the JE eradication programme should be included in the national health programme.
