LAURA BUSH has won a new set of pals —Chamki, Googly, Aanchoo and Boombah — all muppets. On Thursday, the US first lady acted in an episode of Gali Gali Sim Sim, an Indian adaptation of the hit US TV series for pre-schoolers, Sesame Street. And she instantly hit it off with her co-stars, particularly Chamki, the five-year-old girl muppet. Here is how the exchange went:

Chamki: “I just got to know that we all have different ways of counting but the interesting thing is that we all love counting. Isn’t it so?”

(Laura nods)
Chamki: “Now, listen to how Mrs Bush counts.”
Laura: “One, two, three, four and five.”

Though the shoot (at Noida) was over in just five minutes, the muppets got some more time with her. “She taught me counting till 5,” said Chamki.

Aanchoo, the story-teller muppet, said: “Laura admired my long hair.” As for Boombah the lion, well, he was totally bowled over.
Gali Gali Sim Sim will go on air in July (on Cartoon Network and Pogo).
