Leader solicits lawyers? support for Congress

CONGRESS IS not just a political party but a way of life that believes in secularism and not in narrow caste politics. This was stated by senior advocate of Supreme Court and chairman of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Legal Cell SC Maheshwari here today. Maheshwari was addressing a talk organised by the UP Congress Committee Legal Cell on ‘Role of lawyers in the present socio-political scenario in UP’.

Maheshwari said if lawyers came forward to support Congress, it was sure to come to power in UP. Urging party workers, specially pro-Congress lawyers, to work unitedly he said had there been no principle in the party, it would have disintegrated once out of power.

But one can see that Congress had continued to fight for the public cause and the BJP, with no principles, was fast losing ground once out of power.

Maheshwari described how public, especially lawyers, welcomed him when he led the ‘Nyaya Rath Yatra’ that toured 70 districts of UP.

Urging lawyers to support the Congress, Maheshwari said, “We would hold meetings at different places to mobilise public support to Congress.”

Addressing the meeting, senior advocate of High Court BD Madhyan said unless Congress came to power in the State, it could not strengthen its base.

Therefore, he urged the party leaders to give opportunity to youths to lead the party.

Another High Court lawyer, DK Dewan, said “We should create faith among the public there would be rule of law and not of an individual. If we could do that, people would back us.”

Another High Court lawyer Chandra Narain Tripathi alias Chandu said we should raise our voice against what “political
pollution.”
