Let professionals into the bureaucracy

We must let professionals into the system and make changes in our system of promotions and transfers. Many posts are currently accompanied by fleets of yes-men and reserved for people with ties and influence, rather than the hard-working meritorious candidates who put their sweat and blood into qualifying for these posts.

for the eye-opening Inspired India series. It is a wake-up call for citizens and a sure sign of a responsible news medium. ‘Bring in experts. Snip away red tape’ (July 30) was very apt. Over 60 years after Independence, India has still not made the government people-friendly, as it is in nations like the UK and US. We must let professionals into the system and make changes in our system of promotions and transfers.
