Joshi, who was here to attend various programmes, criticised the Manmohan Singh-led UPA Government on the issue of price hike and security. Dr Joshi said that the because of the nuclear pact, the nation bowed down to the USA and said that the BJP wanted the agreement between the two countries should be scrapped immediately.

He said that if the UPA government did not take any action to do away with the pact, it would be done by the BJP when it comes to power. He also said that the BJP would serve a notice on the Centre on various controversial issues, including the nuclear agreement, the price hike and the agriculture policy. Elaborating on the nuclear agreement with the USA, Joshi said that the pact would increase worries of the nation.

Terming the pact as a gimmick, he said that the nuclear equipment, which the country would get after spending $ 50 to 60 billion, would be able to generate electricity only after 10 to 12 years. “Even the experts are amazed at such a humorous agreement,” he said.

Talking about the hike in prices of essential commodities, Dr Joshi said that it resulted from the flexible economic policy of the UPA government. Making mockery of the Congress slogan ‘Congress ka haath, aam aadmi ke sath’, Dr Joshi said that common man’s hand had become empty these days.

Lambasting the UPA government over the hike in prices of food products, he said that by giving permission to the multinational companies for the storage of food grains, the government storages had become empty. He said that this happened because the multinational companies were purchasing food grains from farmers directly. Hence, the farmers did not turn up at government purchase centres, resulting in rise in prices of essential items, he added.

Replying to a question, Dr Joshi did not rule out mid-term general elections and based his predictions on the Congress’s relationship with the Left parties. Hitting out at Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Dr Joshi asked that what would Mulayam teach by including Emergency in the education curriculum? Will he teach how many Muslims went to Jail during Emergency?
