Live surgery displays to mark annual conference

AROUND 800 renowned surgeons of the country would soon congregate in the city to attend the 32nd Annual Conference of the Surgeons of India, UP Chapter—UPASICON-06— between November 3 and November 5 at MLN Medical College here.

Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, organising secretary of the event Dr SC Atri informed that some of the top surgeons would give live demonstration of surgeries, which would be telecast to the attending doctors and the delegates during the meet besides a two-way video conferencing deliberations and lectures during the conference.
"The experts would give surgical demonstrations of both types of surgery, traditional and keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery, which would be performed in the operation theatres of SRN Hospital. The three-day workshop shall include cases of both basic and advanced surgical procedures and techniques," he added.
Dr Atri said that the conference would be inaugurated on Friday at Prof Preetam Das Auditorium of MLN Medical College at 6.30 pm. Dr Kamal Sahini, Director General (DG), Medical Education, will be the chief guest, while RN Tripathi, divisional commissioner, Allahabad, will be the guest of honour," he said.
Scientific advances on topics of surgical interest would be delivered in the medical college campus by eminent surgeons during the conference. "It would include current topics like stem cell therapy, telemedicine, lasers in surgery, recent advances in thyroid and breast cancer, new developments in laparoscopic surgery, management of diabetic foot, pancreatitis, gastro intestinal cancer surgery, liver trauma and some common aspects of plastic surgery," Dr Atri said. Renowned surgeons like former director of Tata Memorial Hospital Prof Ashok Mehta and Prof Rajen Badwe, also of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai besides Prof MC Mishra, HoD Surgery, AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof Adarsh Chowdhury, Head Gastro Surgery, Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, Prof Rajan Saxena, Head Gastro Surgery, SGPGI Lucknow, Prof HS Shukla, BHU, Varanasi, Prof Amanullah Khan and Prof Tariq Mansoor, both AMU, Aligarh would be participating in the meet.
Other well known doctors include Prof AK Singh, head Plastic surgery, KGMU, Lucknow, Prof Ramakant, KGMU, Lucknow and Prof RP Jina, HoD Gorakhpur besides others would also attend the three-day conference.
The surgeons' meet is being jointly organised by the Department of Surgery, MLN Medical College and Surgeons Club, Allahabad.
The organising committee, compromising Prof AK Gupta, Prof DR Singh and Dr SC Atri will be actively assisted by Dr Ashok Agarwal, Dr SK Singh, Dr P Neogi, Dr S Ahmad, Dr M Jain, Dr MN Gopal and Dr Dileep Chaurasia to make the event a big success.
