Salamabad — the border town ahead of Aman Sethu on the Line of Control (LoC) – that was flattened in last October’s earthquake will have a new symbol. A school built with money contributed by Pakistani citizens.

The money came in last year after last October’s earthquake. Mushabir Hassan, former finance minister of Pakistan and founder member of the Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) initiated the campaign to collect funds to help the earthquake-devastated people on this side of the LoC.

“We collected Rs 5 million (approx Indian Rs 38 lakh),” said Hassan. “The money would soon be handed over to the Indian chapter of the PIPFPD,” he said. “We have decided to use the money to build a school-cum-orphanage,” said Tapan Bose of the Indian chapter.
